Login Dashboard Guide

Introduction

The Login Dashboard provides administrators and managers with valuable insights into system access patterns, authentication events, and user login behavior. This specialized analytics tool helps you monitor system usage, identify potential security concerns, and understand when and how frequently users are accessing your platform.

Accessing the Login Dashboard

The Login Dashboard is accessible to users with the following roles:

  • Admin
  • Content
  • Manager

To access the dashboard, navigate to the Insights section from the main navigation menu and select "Login Dashboard."

Dashboard Interface Overview

The Login Dashboard presents a streamlined, focused view that centers entirely around login analytics through the Login Counts Chart. This simplified interface ensures that administrators can quickly access critical authentication data without distraction.

Login Counts Chart

The primary component of the dashboard is the comprehensive Login Counts Chart, which provides several key metrics:

Login Frequency Metrics

The chart displays information about:

  • Total Logins: Aggregate count of all system authentication events
  • Unique User Logins: Number of distinct users who logged in during the period
  • Login Trends: Visual representation of login patterns over time
  • Peak Usage Times: Identification of high-traffic periods

Time-Based Analysis

The Login Counts Chart offers multiple time perspectives:

  • Daily View: Shows login patterns by day of week
  • Weekly View: Aggregates logins by week
  • Monthly View: Shows monthly authentication trends
  • Time-of-Day View: May show login distribution across hours of the day (if configured)

Using the Dashboard for System Management

Usage Pattern Analysis

The Login Dashboard helps you understand:

  • Which days of the week see highest system usage
  • What times of day users most frequently access the system
  • How login patterns vary across different time periods
  • Whether usage is growing, stable, or declining over time

Security Monitoring

Login analytics contribute to security awareness by helping you:

  • Identify unusual login patterns that may indicate unauthorized access
  • Detect after-hours authentication events that warrant investigation
  • Monitor for unexpected spikes or drops in authentication activity
  • Establish baselines for normal login behavior

Capacity Planning

By understanding login patterns, you can optimize system resources:

  • Schedule maintenance during periods of lowest login activity
  • Ensure sufficient system capacity during peak usage times
  • Plan system upgrades based on growth trends
  • Allocate support resources during high-usage periods

Interpreting Dashboard Data

Common Login Patterns

Typical organizational login patterns often show:

  • Higher activity during business hours (9am-5pm)
  • Reduced weekend activity (unless your organization operates 24/7)
  • Consistent weekly patterns with predictable peaks and valleys
  • Reduced activity during holidays and company-wide events

Notable Anomalies

Patterns that may warrant investigation include:

  • Sudden, unexpected spikes in login activity
  • Logins at unusual hours that deviate from established patterns
  • Sharp drops in login counts not aligned with holidays or known events
  • Erratic patterns that differ significantly from historical norms

Advanced Login Analysis

Depending on your implementation, the Login Dashboard may also provide:

User Segment Analysis

  • Department/Team Breakdown: Login patterns by organizational unit
  • Role-Based Analysis: Login frequency by user role or permission level
  • Location Data: Geographic distribution of login events
  • Device Information: Types of devices used for authentication

Authentication Method Metrics

  • Method Distribution: Breakdown of login methods (password, SSO, MFA)
  • Success vs. Failure Rates: Monitoring of failed login attempts
  • Recovery Actions: Frequency of password resets or account recovery events
  • MFA Adoption: Tracking of multi-factor authentication usage

Troubleshooting

Issue: Chart shows no data

  • Verify authentication logging is properly configured
  • Check if the selected time period contains login events
  • Ensure your role has permission to view login analytics

Issue: Login counts seem lower than expected

  • Verify all authentication methods are being tracked
  • Check if API or service account logins are included in metrics
  • Confirm single sign-on events are properly recorded

Issue: Cannot access certain login metrics

  • Some detailed authentication analytics may require specific permissions
  • Check with your system administrator about access limitations
  • Verify your role includes security analytics privileges
